Usability & Research
At Kent State, our website and portal serves a wide range of stakeholders, from prospective and current students, to prospective and current faculty and staff, to media, to high school guidance counselors, to parents and the general public. Simply testing the university portal requires user experience research with eight audience segments. As a result, user experience testing is a major undertaking.
User experience testing, focus groups and online surveys have been blended to produce needs assessments for various historical projects. The process used by the team has persisted with some minor modifications. Examples of approach and assessment reports include:
- Kent State University Website
- Needs Assessment (.pdf, one sample from the various years)
- Evolution of www.kent.edu during my career at the university and changes due to user experience research
- Majors & Degrees Website
- FlashLine (university portal)
- Needs Assessment (.doc)
- My Account Screen Shot – reflective of enhancements based on needs assessment (.ppt)
